Dry chemical powder is used as an extinguishing agent, the most common being ABC Chemical Powder, preferably used to combat class A, B and class C fires. The chemical powder in ABC extinguishers, composed of ammonium phosphate, is considered corrosive to some more sensitive surfaces, making it crucial to collect and clean it quickly.

It is a non-toxic chemical powder, but considered to cause “nuisance dust”, classified as being “slightly dangerous”, causing discomfort to some people with respiratory sensitivity.
