Animal hoarding can also occur in association with Diogenes syndrome (hoarding of objects or garbage). Both locations are considered unsanitary and pose a health risk, with accumulations of feces, garbage, decaying food, and animal carcasses.

Animal hoarding (Noah's Syndrome) has become a very important issue, given the increase in cases in recent years in Portugal, constituting a serious problem to combat, as it is associated with animal abuse and neglect, as well as easily revealing itself as a public health issue.

These animals lack adequate medical and hygiene care, making it very easy for them to become ill. These diseases can even be contracted by humans and can even lead to death. They often live in areas where decaying animal carcasses, feces, and urine often accumulate. In short, this is a complex public health problem with serious consequences for both human and animal well-being.

What is a place with animal accumulation?

Noah Syndrome is a variant of Hoarding Disorder and is characterized by the negligent accumulation of an excessive number of animals and, as the name suggests, these are spaces that have a significant number of domestic animals. However, it is not only the number that determines a case of hoarding, but also the lack of minimum standards of care and hygiene.
