After a corpse is removed and decomposed, the scene is chaotic and family members are responsible for cleaning up the remains.
A difficult problem to solve because, in addition to the nuisance of the intense stench of cadaveric decomposition that bothers others, we are faced with a public health issue and a traumatic situation.

HUMAN DECOMPOSITION

After death, after a few days the body begins to decompose, releasing immense gases, some of them quite toxic, including
volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are highly harmful to human health.
In addition, there is the release of bodily fluids (blood and other liquids), which are difficult to eliminate, capable of penetrating all surfaces and which contain various pathogenic microorganisms (infectious agents).
Shortly after death, the immune system ceases to function, allowing various microorganisms to proliferate freely. These dangerous microorganisms easily become suspended in the air, as well as on surfaces where organic matter is found, creating a biological hazard for human and animal life, and the environment.
BEFORE
AFTER
DID YOU KNOW…?

The first sign, besides the person's absence from your daily life, is the odor that is felt when the corpse begins to decompose.
This characteristic smell of decomposition attracts insects that feed on the organic matter present, capable of spreading contamination and dirt throughout the space, spreading to adjacent areas.
If specialized equipment, techniques, and certified products are not used to remove and treat all bad odors, they will remain for years and may never completely leave the space.
Applying conventional products doesn't remove the odor; it only disguises it, masking it rather than eliminating it. Only specialized companies like DEATHCLEAN® , the only company in Portugal with internationally certified training in odor elimination and control, can successfully remove all bad odors, the “smell of death”.
It is not enough and does not work to simply apply an aerosol spray, open doors and windows and hope it works, as it will not solve the problem, it will only momentarily mask the bad odor, which will end up remaining in the place.
Leaving a toxic product in the space for days, cleaning with bleach, or other household products won't solve the problem either. This is arduous and difficult work, and only the best is within the reach of DEATHCLEAN® , holder of specialized training in the area of odor control.
Our company successfully removes all unpleasant odors from the biological decomposition of a body, leaving the space with pleasant, purified air, free from contamination.

THAT THE SPACE, AFTER CORRECT CLEANING AND DISINFECTION, IS FREE OF ANY ODOR.
THE BODY AFTER DEATH

The activities of the heart, brain and lungs slow down and stop functioning.

Drop in body temperature (algor mortis). The body cools at an average of 1.5ºC/hour, until it reaches room temperature.
Death begins due to the absence of oxygen. Without oxygen, there is no metabolism, and without metabolism, cells die, collapsing and initiating the process of putrefaction.

Putrefaction follows, a fermentation process in which various microorganisms intervene, which will cause the destruction of tissues.
With the end of respiration, ATP is depleted, causing the calcium pumps present in the muscles to stop working, accumulating in the muscle tissue, causing contraction. (rigor mortis).

The body begins to relax, releasing feces and urine. The skin shrinks, giving the impression of hair and nail growth.

The skin becomes pale because blood, due to gravity, begins to accumulate in the lower areas of the body. (rigor mortis).
With the start of the autolysis process, the released enzymes begin autodigestion (digestion of the body from the inside out).

The body swells, which can lead to rupture and subsequent collapse of the abdominal area. This occurs due to the production of various gases.

A strong, unpleasant odor begins to emanate, due to the release of putrescine and cadaverine.

The body color changes from purple/greenish to black as bacterial digestion occurs (advanced decomposition resulting in the release of fluids).

Insects are attracted to the corpse if it is not found quickly. Given the life cycle of the blowfly (Caliphoridae), which lays its eggs in natural openings in the body, after 24/48 hours we can observe the larvae, which can digest up to 60% of the corpse in a week.

Under conditions of humidity and average temperatures, soft tissue decomposition occurs after four months. When all the decomposition byproducts have dried, only the skeleton remains. (skeletonization).
DEATHCLEAN INTERVENTION

THE DEATHCLEAN® has specialized training and uses the most appropriate products, ensuring that, from the moment you entrust your problem to us, it begins to be resolved definitively.

CLEANING AND DISINFECTION
We guarantee the elimination of all biological risk on site, leaving no trace of the death that occurred.

DEODORIZATION
We are certified in odor treatment and control, eliminating all unpleasant odors associated with death.

We guarantee the correct treatment and disposal of all contaminated waste removed.
EXPOSURE TO MICROORGANISMS

It is important to be aware of the dangers we face when visiting a place where a death has occurred:

HEPATITIS B VIRUS (HBV)

HEPATITIS C VIRUS (HCV)

HEPATITIS D VIRUS (HDV)

NATURAL DEATHS – HUMAN
After a corpse is removed and decomposed, the scene is chaotic and family members are responsible for cleaning up the remains.
A difficult problem to solve because, in addition to the nuisance of the intense stench of cadaveric decomposition that bothers others, we are faced with a public health issue and a traumatic situation.
The family is still in shock, but a quick, effective, and legal solution is needed to remove all organic matter from the biological decomposition of the body.
In these cases, since the site is a biological hazard, not only must bodily fluids be cleaned, but the air must also be properly disinfected and purified. Cleaning and disinfecting death sites is extremely difficult and dangerous, as they are environments with the presence of organic matter from decomposition, where anyone unaware of how to protect themselves can easily become infected.
That's why the DEATHCLEAN® is the third entity to be called to the scene. It is the one who will finalize and close this death scene, proceeding with the proper cleaning, disinfection, and removal of all foul odors.

Shortly after death, the immune system ceases to function, allowing various microorganisms to proliferate freely. These dangerous microorganisms easily become suspended in the air, as well as on surfaces where organic matter is found, creating a biological hazard for human and animal life, and the environment.
A single, simple exposure can immediately cause infection. The best way to reduce the risk is to properly clean and disinfect blood and other bodily fluids, eliminating all organic matter. This reduces the risk of contamination and leaves the area as safe as if no death had ever occurred.
Cleaning a trauma site, where a violent death or decomposition occurred, is not something that can be accomplished quickly and requires much more than simply water and bleach. It cannot be performed by unqualified home companies, as to ensure the elimination of all contamination, it will require the use of appropriate techniques and products, which only specialized companies like DEATHCLEAN® have, our company being the only one certified in Portugal, with the technical capacity to restore the affected site, returning everything to how it was before, with total safety.

This characteristic smell of decomposition attracts insects that feed on the organic matter present, capable of spreading contamination and dirt throughout the space, spreading to adjacent areas.
Is eliminating the “smell of death” difficult to solve?
The smell coming from human decomposition, that characteristic bad odor, becomes increasingly intense as the days go by, spreading throughout the home and easily spreading outside the area contaminated with bodily fluids, remaining trapped on all surfaces and objects, making its elimination impossible through traditional methods and by non-specialized people or companies.
Can the odor ever go away?
If specialized equipment, techniques, and certified products are not used to remove and treat all bad odors, they will remain for years and may never completely leave the space.
Applying conventional products doesn't remove the odor; it only disguises it, masking it rather than eliminating it.
